First, let’s see how a content marketing – or inbound marketing – process works.

The process can be divided into 3 phases:
First: you create content. This could be a blog post or it could be just a description of your services. Think of example.com/products/our-good-service. This is a page you want your prospects to see.
Second: you get people to read it. his might mean advertising or creating Facebook posts, or it might be that your customers have your blog bookmarked in their browsers and visit your site regularly. Often it’s through Google. It’s important to increase the amount of people who visit your site and most importantly, you want them to be relevant to your business. Visitors are cheap; quality leads are not.

Third: you get people to leave their contact details. Because your content is so good, it’s insightful and adds value, the reader gets interested and calls or visits your store and you make money. This of course is the the best-case scenario.
More often than not, it’s the third step where you lose out the most. Most people will not call you right away after reading your content for various reasons. Nor will they sign up to receive your email. Only the 2% we talked about earlier will do that. What happens with the 98%? Who are they?
The other 98% are the hardest part. Because they didn’t call us or leave their contact information, we don’t know that much about them. Our next step is to gather all possible information about them and utilize that information so that we can take actionable steps to get them as customers.
